Guy’s interest in amber insects actually started as a teenager, when he became obsessed with science and astronomy. After building a succession of telescopes, creating an astronomy club, and ultimately getting a scholarship to the University of Arizona to study astrophysics, Guy was now able to examine the universe in earnest. Observing the stars then led to an abiding interest in how life appeared in the universe. Later as Guy went to the Art Center College of Design in Los Angeles as a fine arts student, he gained an intense appreciation of art. He then combined these two passions by founding  Mentus, one of California’s first marketing agencies focusing on high technology and biotechnology. He became intimately involved in promoting cutting edge technology visually with hundreds of companies and thousands of projects globally.

A reading of Jurassic Park (along with seeing the movie) sparked an interest in amber, and his skill with optics and photography led to the discovery that insects in amber have a profound beauty. He felt it was a shame that the traditional photos he viewed in books were flat and uninteresting.

Since then Guy has made numerous presentation about his work, along with appearing in several television news programs. He also is publishing a book of his art. The intention is to have gallery showings of very large prints of these images, some of them over ten feet in size. In the meantime, he has, in the last three years, created a growing “Amber List” of several hundred friends and acquaintances with an interest in art and science to whom he weekly emails small copies of his latest image.

Mr. Iannuzzi is currently working on his first book about his art.
